Awards night...

After watching the Awards last evening, I have to say this, European actors, play pseudo archetype roles, where the emotional depth has no strong contextual attachment to the character's 'johari window,' and we as people of color are only recognized and applauded when and if we denigrate ourselves within the standard of rude and outright animals. Remember Denzel had to play an evil cop in Training Day, Halle Berry had to screw around with 'Billy Bob Thornton, just to get noticed by Hollywood. Maybe we need to start our own Grammy awards ceremony. And call it the Hattie McDaniel award. Or Paul Robeson ceremony...
We are rewarded for the concept of inhumane behavior, ....Hollywood.... deems appropriate. Now do not get me wrong, I love acting, and movies. However, to quote ....Paul Mooney...., .."Black is the new white......."we are skiing in the Alps, roller blading down 125th street. Yet, when heading downtown in the loop, every morning, I see now black people. Occasionally, on e or two of us do happen to show up. But, very rarely. And when I just happen to notice"us," it appears like we are leaving work. Just a thought and an eerie observation...
We have come a long way. Yet, we have not acknowledged our successes.
We still treat each other as enemies; we carry ourselves as if we have no future or stake in this society. We have to change what is in our hearts in order for the attribute to take a positive effect on our minds. Now, there are a number of things, which to be alluded to, but what is required is constructive discussion on what our description must be. We need to know what should be expected of us as men and women, our children need to understand their role in the family and that education will help change our perception of self and our place in this world will become ever clearer. We where teachers of men, instructors of students, who wanted to learn. Who understood, that college was designed to help you to think.
What happened? Have we fallen so far from what g_d, wanted for us, that most of us, if not all could only find solace in entertaining the rest of the populace? I once read, yet, for the love of me, do not remember where, that one cannot find the right place if one starts off in the wrong direction. Maybe this is true, Unless, we drop our pride long enough to ask for directions. I am so proud of us and all the fantastic achievements under our belts. But, what happened to all of the inventors and scientists and patents our ancestors we so prolific at bringing to the table?
Just a thought...what do you think?
